Xpeng is reportedly adjusting its product strategy for the G6 SUV, as the launch of its more advanced G7 SUV has led to an overlap in pricing and features.

According to local media outlet AutoPix, the Chinese electric vehicle maker is preparing a cost-reduction plan for the G6, with potential savings of RMB 10,000 to RMB 20,000 ($1,400–$2,800) per unit.

The revised G6, with a project code updated from F30b to F30be, is expected to enter production in the fourth quarter of this year. While the design and core functionality of the vehicle will remain largely unchanged, Xpeng plans to lower manufacturing costs by switching parts suppliers without impacting quality.

The shift comes as Xpeng launched the G7 SUV on July 3, offering three trims starting at RMB 195,800. The current G6, launched in March, is priced from RMB 176,800 to RMB 198,800—narrowing the gap between the two models. The G9 SUV, by comparison, occupies a higher segment with prices starting at RMB 248,800.

The realignment reflects Xpeng’s broader effort to streamline its growing SUV portfolio. In addition to the G6, G7, and G9, a new SUV model, codenamed D03, is expected to be produced at the company’s Wuhan plant beginning next year.

The D03 is intended to mirror the positioning of the Mona M03, Xpeng’s lowest-priced model, which starts at RMB 119,800 and accounted for over 43% of the company’s deliveries in the first half of the year.
