Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Xpeng on Wednesday unveiled the 2025 versions of its G6 and G9 sport utility vehicles (SUVs), featuring lower prices, streamlined configurations, and improved charging speeds as the company aims to expand its market presence.
The refreshed G6, a mid-size SUV, is now available in three configurations, with starting prices of 176,800 yuan ($24,400), 186,800 yuan, and 198,800 yuan, respectively. This marks an 11.6% price reduction from the previous model, which had a base price of 199,900 yuan. Xpeng reported on Weibo that the 2025 G6 secured over 5,000 firm orders within seven minutes of its launch.

Similarly, the 2025 G9, Xpeng’s premium SUV offering, is now priced from 248,800 yuan, with higher-end variants available at 258,800 yuan and 278,800 yuan. The updated model is 5.7% cheaper than its predecessor, which had a starting price of 263,900 yuan. Within 45 minutes of launch, Xpeng announced it had received more than 3,000 orders for the G9.
Faster Charging and Performance Enhancements
Both the 2025 G6 and G9 are built on Xpeng’s 800-volt high-voltage architecture, enabling ultra-fast 5C charging. The company stated that the updated models can charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 12 minutes, significantly improving on the previous generation’s 20-minute charging time, which was based on a 3C charging multiplier.

The new G6 retains its previous dimensions with slight modifications, measuring 4,758 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.
Its two lower-priced variants offer a China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) range of 625 kilometers, while the highest-end variant has a range of 725 kilometers. According to a regulatory filing by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the corresponding battery capacities are 68.5 kWh and 80.8 kWh, respectively.

The 2025 G9 maintains the same dimensions as the previous model, with a length of 4,891 mm, width of 1,937 mm, height of 1,670 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,998 mm.
It is available in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. The single-motor versions deliver peak power of 258 kW and 465 Nm of torque, while the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variant offers 423 kW of power and 695 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds.

Shift to Vision-Based Smart Driving
Xpeng has equipped both the G6 and G9 with its Turing AI smart driving system as a standard feature, powered by two Nvidia Drive Orin chips with a total computing capacity of 508 TOPS. However, the company has removed LiDAR sensors from both models, transitioning to a pure vision-based autonomous driving approach, similar to the P7+ sedan launched last year.

Xpeng’s latest updates to the G6 and G9 reflect its efforts to remain competitive in China’s growing EV market by improving performance and affordability. With strong initial order volumes, the company anticipates further sales growth in the coming months.
