Xpeng, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker, has officially entered the Spanish and Portuguese markets as part of its broader European expansion strategy. The company hosted launch events in Madrid on September 25 and in Lisbon on September 26, introducing its G9 and G6 SUVs, along with the P7 sedan, to both countries.
In Spain, the company reported high demand, with 650 reservations for test drives on the launch day in Madrid. Xpeng aims to quickly establish its presence across 10 cities in Spain, including major markets like Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, and Malaga, through a partnership with Salvador Caetano, the largest automotive group in the Iberian Peninsula.

For the Portuguese market, Xpeng plans to expand its sales network to 6 outlets by the end of 2024 and 15 by the end of 2025, building on its current locations in Lisbon and Porto.
Xpeng’s European journey began in late 2020 when it exported a batch of vehicles to Norway. After pausing its overseas efforts in 2022, the company resumed its expansion in early 2023. Recent launches have included Germany and France, and the G6 made its UK debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2024, with orders for the UK set to open later this year.
Spain, as the fourth-largest economy in the European Union, offers a promising opportunity for Chinese carmakers to grow sales overseas, while Portugal has also seen significant growth in car sales, Xpeng noted.
