Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng has announced a new distributor partnership to bring its all-electric cars to Ireland, marking the latest step in its broader European expansion.
Through an agreement with Motor Distributors Limited (MDL), Xpeng will introduce its vehicles, beginning with the G6 SUV, to the Irish market, a key right-hand drive region, the company said in a statement.
“This partnership aligns with our strategic commitment to Europe and brings us closer to our goal of making intelligent, eco-friendly mobility accessible in new markets,” Xpeng stated. The G6 SUV, a mid-size coupe-styled vehicle, will be the first model launched in Ireland, boasting advanced technology and leading features such as an 800-volt supercharging capability and extended driving range.
Xpeng views Ireland’s rapidly growing EV market, supported by government incentives and an expanding charging infrastructure, as ideal for meeting the increasing demand for sustainable transport options.
MDL, a prominent Irish automotive distributor known for its expertise in sedans, light vans, and commercial vehicles, is expected to play a significant role in Xpeng’s European push. Leveraging MDL’s established network, Xpeng aims to set up dealerships across Ireland to provide local customers access to its electric models. “MDL’s market expertise and distribution network make them an invaluable partner as we expand our presence in Europe,” the company added.
Since Xpeng began its European deliveries in Norway in 2020, it has launched models in Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Iceland, and other markets.
Most recently, it introduced the G9 and G6 SUVs and the P7 sedan to Spain and Portugal in late September. Xpeng has set ambitious goals for international expansion, with plans to enter over 60 global markets by the end of 2025 and to achieve half of its sales outside China.
