Xpeng launched its G6 SUV and X9 MPV in Hong Kong on May 17, a month after signing a dealer agreement to penetrate the market. Both models will feature a next-generation voice-control system capable of recognizing Cantonese, according to a statement from the electric vehicle (EV) maker.

The G6 SUV starts at HK$299,900 (US$38,440) for the standard-range version and HK$349,900 for the long-range version. The intended pre-tax price of the X9 MPV is less than HK$500,000, with the final price pending approval from the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department. The first deliveries of the right-hand drive version of the G6 are anticipated in the third quarter.

“Entering the Hong Kong market is strategically important for Xpeng to build its globalization footprint,” said Brian Gu, vice chairman and president of Xpeng. He emphasized that Hong Kong is a key market in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and serves as an essential gateway for the company’s global expansion.

Xpeng signed a deal with Malaysia’s Sime Darby Group on April 9, authorizing the company to be its official distributor in the Hong Kong market. Sime Darby is set to open an Xpeng flagship store in the third quarter, introducing the G6 and X9, with deliveries expected to begin in the same period.

In addition to its plans for Hong Kong, Xpeng announced last month that it will partner with Macau’s Xin Kang Heng Group to offer models including the G9, X9, G6, and P7i in Macau. Deliveries of left-hand drive Xpeng models are expected to begin in Macau in May this year.
