Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng and BP pulse have signed a memorandum of understanding to open their charging networks to each other’s customers, granting access to over 30,000 charging points across China.

The collaboration will also see the two companies launch pilot projects in select cities, featuring co-branded ultra-fast chargers installed in key economic hubs. These locations, designed to enhance user experience, will provide “a higher density, higher quality, safer, and more reliable charging experience,” according to Car News China. The pilot projects aim to establish charging infrastructure in core economic zones, including transportation networks, research parks, and environmental regulation areas.

Xpeng, which operates approximately 10,000 charging points at over 2,000 locations in 420 cities, has been ramping up its fast-charging capabilities. The company introduced its S5 HPC charging stations with up to 800 kW of power in September 2024, supplementing its existing S4 stations launched in 2022. BP pulse, on the other hand, contributes 23,000 charging piles at 1,000 locations nationwide.

The partnership extends beyond charging infrastructure. The agreement outlines potential collaboration in photovoltaics, energy storage, and marketing initiatives. “This collaboration marks an important step in creating a seamless and efficient charging ecosystem for EV users across China,” the companies said in a joint statement.

The deal mirrors Xpeng’s recent agreement with Volkswagen, which also includes mutual access to charging networks and plans for co-branded fast-chargers. Additionally, Xpeng signed a cooperation agreement with Xiaomi, further expanding its charging infrastructure partnerships.

By building alliances with major players in the EV and energy sectors, Xpeng aims to strengthen its position in China’s competitive electric mobility market while improving accessibility for EV drivers.
