Xiaomi’s third electric vehicle (EV), codenamed N3, has been spotted in China, and it is expected to rival high-end range-extended SUVs such as Huawei’s Aito M9 and Li Auto’s L9. The crossover, which was seen heavily camouflaged in recent spy shots, is slated for release in 2026, according to leaked product plans.
The N3 features a distinctive design with a high bonnet line, sleek A-pillars, and a flat roofline, which is indicative of its larger size. The vehicle’s rear end appears spacious enough to accommodate third-row seats, and it is equipped with five-spoke rims and small side-view mirrors. Notably, the crossover is also fitted with test headlights and cameras in the front fenders, though it does not include a LiDAR sensor on the roof, as seen in other advanced autonomous vehicles.
Xiaomi’s N3 is expected to adopt a range-extended powertrain, although details on the key components remain scarce. The system will likely differ from Xiaomi’s in-house-developed V6 and V8 electric motors, which are designed for 800V high-voltage systems. Range-extended models typically use 400V systems, and Xiaomi is expected to incorporate different electric motors for the N3 to suit this configuration. Additionally, the N3 is set to feature a rear-wheel steering system, adding to its appeal in the competitive market for range-extended electric vehicles (EREVs).
This move into the EREV segment comes as both Li Auto and Aito continue to lead the market in China, where EREV sales are rapidly growing. From January to October 2024, Li Auto sold 393,257 units, while Aito sold 351,663 vehicles, with most models featuring EREV powertrains.
