Xiaomi has unveiled its second electric vehicle (EV), the YU7, as the company moves forward with plans to expand its presence in the automotive market. Following the submission of its sales license application to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the company also revealed key specifications and the first official images of the production version of the YU7. While the unveiling coincides with the MIIT’s release of homologation filings, it also provides a closer look at what Xiaomi’s new all-electric SUV has to offer.
Design and Dimensions
The Xiaomi YU7 is an all-electric SUV with a sleek and robust design. The vehicle measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and stands 1,600 mm tall. It features a 3,000 mm wheelbase and a curb weight of 2,405 kg, positioning it as a sizeable and substantial EV in its category. While the vehicle’s design is modern and stylish, Xiaomi wisely released its official images shortly after MIIT’s release of the homologation pictures, which are often less flattering for vehicles in the final stages of approval.
Powertrain and Performance
The YU7 is equipped with dual electric motors, providing impressive performance figures. The front motor generates 220 kW, while the rear motor produces 288 kW, combining for a total output of 508 kW (681 hp). This powerful powertrain allows the YU7 to reach a top speed of 253 km/h, highlighting the vehicle’s performance capabilities. The SUV is powered by a lithium NMC battery supplied by CATL, though the specific battery capacity remains undisclosed. This powertrain setup positions the YU7 as a high-performance competitor in the EV SUV market.
Market and Pricing Expectations
Xiaomi’s first EV, the SU7 sedan, has already seen impressive success since its launch in March 2024. With over 100,000 units delivered by mid-November, Xiaomi aims to deliver 130,000 SU7 units by the end of the year. With such momentum in its EV production, the company is now focusing on its next major release, the YU7. Expected to launch in June or July 2025, the YU7 will be priced between 250,000 and 350,000 yuan (approximately 34,000 to 48,000 USD), which places it in a competitive range with popular models like the Tesla Model Y, which starts at 249,900 yuan in China.
As Xiaomi continues to expand its EV offerings, the YU7 is set to become a crucial part of the company’s push into the electric vehicle market, offering impressive performance, stylish design, and competitive pricing. The YU7 is likely to attract attention as it nears its official release, with Xiaomi positioning it as an attractive alternative to existing electric SUVs on the market.
