Volkswagen’s highly anticipated flagship electric vehicle, the ID.7, is nearing the end of its testing phase. Ahead of its world premiere on April 17, Volkswagen has released photos of the final test drives in Alicante, Spain, and shared more details about the car’s drive, chassis, and comfort features.
The ID.7 will feature a new electric drive, the APP550, which has been specially developed to significantly increase efficiency and power. VW Group Components has been manufacturing the drive unit in Kassel since mid-March. The motor variant used in most MEB models produces 150 kW and 310 Nm, while the APP550 is claimed to produce up to 210 kW and offer 550 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful and highest-torque electric drive motor in a Volkswagen ID model so far.

While the focus was primarily on performance data in March, VW now emphasizes that the new e-drive has been optimized in terms of energy consumption. The expected consumption figures are not yet available, but depending on the battery size, WLTP ranges of up to 700 kilometers and charging capacities of up to 200 kW are forecast.
To make long-distance travel more comfortable, the chassis of the Passat-sized e-saloon has been tuned accordingly. The optional adaptive chassis control (DCC) and the driving dynamics manager of the touring sedan have been further developed, providing both precise handling and high driving stability.
The interior of the ID.7 has been designed with comfort in mind. The driver’s display is embedded in the dashboard, and the infotainment touchscreen measures 15 inches diagonally as standard. The operating concept has been fundamentally revised, and there are now illuminated touch sliders. The “augmented reality head-up display” also comes as standard in the ID.7.
According to Kai Grünitz, brand board member for technical development, “With the ID.7, we have exploited the potential of the MEB even further. In addition, we have enhanced the control quality of the running gear and were thus able to further increase driving comfort. The combination of a superior drive system, comfortable running gear, and long range make the ID.7 the perfect limousine for long-distance travel.”
