Tata Motors, a subsidiary of Tata Group that also owns Jaguar and Land Rover, recently unveiled Sierra EV, a production-ready electric SUV concept, at the India Auto Expo 2023 in New Delhi. The company has plans to launch 10 electric vehicles in various segments and styles in India by 2027, including the Nexon EV, Tigor EV, and Tiago EV, which will begin deliveries this month. The new Sierra EV SUV concept is a preview of another EV model set to launch in 2025.

The Tata Sierra EV is a significantly improved version of the concept vehicle that was unveiled at the 2020 India Auto Expo. The compact SUV is reportedly production-ready and boasts a spacious interior and ample storage space. It features an adventure SUV design with balanced proportions, high ground clearance, a flat hood, and rugged bumpers with skid plates. The black cladding around the wheel arches, door sills, and bumpers add to its rugged look.

The Tata Sierra EV Concept preserves its identity through blacked-out C and D pillars and traditional rear doors, rather than the sliding doors of the original concept. Exterior design features include sleek headlights connected by an LED strip, and similar taillights. Inside, the vehicle has a horizontal, layered design theme with a modern dashboard, central touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, a steering wheel with an illuminated logo, and a shifter on a suspended center tunnel.

The Sierra EV boasts rear lounge seating that offers more space than a vehicle from a higher segment, without sacrificing utility. The rear seats even have a reclining function similar to business class seats.

According to Autocar India, the Sierra EV SUV is set to launch in 2025 and will be positioned above the Safari in Tata Motors’ lineup. Tata Motors did not disclose specific details, but said the Sierra will be available in both EV and ICE powertrains and will be built using the company’s ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture.
