At the CES 2022 event which showcased electronic devices including electric EV vehicles, General Motors as the parent company of Chevrolet displayed a digital image of its electric Compact SUV, the Equinox EV.

The news about the electric version of the small SUV Equinox was confirmed in an online speech by Mary Barra, GM CEO at CES 2022.

GM reports that the fully electric compact SUV will be launched in the latter half of 2023 with a price tag of $30,000.

In addition to the Equinox EV which is in the compact SUV segment, Chevrolet also announced that the Blazer EV will also be presented. Both will start shipping to customers in 2024.

Like the Silverado EV, the Equinox EV and the Blazer EV will be built on the General Motors Ultium Scalable platform, which is a modular skateboard-style architecture for placing the battery on the floor of the car.

The Equinox EV will be provided as a compact SUV that is functional and sold at an affordable price.

Yes, the price equivalent to IDR 400 million will indeed feel cheap for an EV today, because the cheapest EV average is at the level of IDR 650 million or around $ 45 thousand.

The announcement also features several renderings of the Equinox EV as a preview of what Chevrolet’s new electric car will look like.

The appearance of the Chevy EV design looks evocative as a modern car that prioritizes an aerodynamic appearance. This is a very seductive form.

Although this is an SUV that is synonymous with high ground-clearance, its flat and wide dimensions make it look like it sticks to the road. Plus the big wheels make it look fierce and sturdy.

Conventional Interior

Interior renderings show a look that is close to the production model, as it already looks very reasonable for today’s cars.

A touch screen is displayed that takes up more than half the width of the dashboard, the head unit model is integrated with the meter-cluster as found in today’s cars, such as from Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai and Kia.

Powertrain Specifications

Unfortunately, Chevrolet has not announced the drivetrain specifications of this EV SUV, such as battery size, electric motor power output and distance traveled.

The affordable price at least gives an idea that this car will not be equipped with a large battery for long distances. The normal range of the cheapest electric car is 350 – 500 km on a single charge.

Chevorlet doesn’t give its EV model a different name, so it’s a complete electrification of the long-standing ICE model. It was also revealed that the Equinox EV will be available in Armada, LT and RS variants.

The Chevrolet Equinox version of the combustion engine itself is Chevrolet’s second best-selling car after the Silverado-1500. So that his name is very well known to automotive consumers, especially in the United States.
