Chinese autonomous driving technology companies WeRide and Pony.ai have been added to the Stock Connect eligible list, allowing mainland Chinese investors to trade their Hong Kong-listed shares.
The adjustment to the Stock Connect list will take effect on June 4, according to announcements from the Shanghai Stock Exchange. The move comes about seven months after both companies began trading in Hong Kong.
Eligible mainland investors will be able to directly trade the Hong Kong-listed shares of WeRide and Pony.ai through the cross-border investment mechanism.
Access to Mainland Capital
Stock Connect is a mutual market access program linking the mainland Chinese and Hong Kong stock markets. The scheme maintains eligibility requirements related to market capitalization, liquidity and regulatory compliance.
For mainland investors, participation generally requires securities account assets of more than RMB 500,000 ($73,940).
The Stock Connect system operates through separate Shanghai-Hong Kong and Shenzhen-Hong Kong trading channels, providing mainland investors with access to selected Hong Kong-listed companies.
The inclusion of WeRide and Pony.ai is expected to deepen their connection with mainland capital markets and potentially improve trading liquidity.
Dual-Listed Autonomous Driving Companies
Both companies have completed listings in the United States and Hong Kong.
WeRide was founded in 2017 and listed on the Nasdaq on October 25, 2024.
Pony.ai, established in late 2016, completed its Nasdaq listing on November 27, 2024.
The two companies subsequently debuted on the Hong Kong stock market on November 6, 2025.
WeRide Expanding Global Operations
WeRide currently operates autonomous driving services in more than 40 cities across eight countries.
The company reports a global autonomous vehicle fleet of approximately 2,800 vehicles, including around 1,300 robotaxis.
WeRide has said it plans to expand its robotaxi fleet to 2,600 vehicles by the end of 2026 and ultimately scale to tens of thousands of vehicles by 2030.
Its autonomous driving platform is built around the proprietary WeRide Genesis world model, which combines generative artificial intelligence and physical AI technologies.
The company’s end-to-end ADAS solution has secured nearly 30 vehicle model design wins from automakers including GAC and Chery.
Pony.ai Targets Larger Fleet and Revenue Growth
Pony.ai recently projected that its robotaxi revenue in 2026 will exceed 3.5 times the level expected for 2025.
The company has also raised its global fleet target for the end of 2026 from 3,000 vehicles to more than 3,500 vehicles.
Pony.ai’s technology strategy centers on its proprietary PonyWorld world model and Virtual Driver platform, which support both robotaxi and autonomous freight operations.
The company continues to expand commercial deployment of its autonomous driving services in multiple markets.
Broader Investor Exposure
The inclusion of WeRide and Pony.ai in the Stock Connect program comes amid growing investor interest in autonomous driving, artificial intelligence and intelligent transportation technologies.
By becoming accessible to qualified mainland investors, both companies are expected to gain broader exposure within China’s domestic capital markets while continuing to pursue large-scale commercialization of autonomous mobility services.
