Waymo is expanding its autonomous ride-hailing service in Silicon Valley, adding Mountain View, Los Altos, Palo Alto, and parts of Sunnyvale to its “Waymo One” early rider program. The expansion, set to begin Wednesday, increases the company’s coverage in the Bay Area to 82 square miles, with 27 of those newly added.
The Alphabet-owned firm is ramping up its commercial operations and geographic footprint. Last week, Waymo integrated its vehicles into Uber’s platform in Austin, Texas, with plans to extend the partnership to Atlanta later this year. The company is also launching in Miami through a collaboration with African mobility startup Moove.

Waymo is set to expand further, with plans to test in up to 10 new U.S. cities, including Las Vegas and San Diego, as part of its broader national rollout. This growth follows a $5.6 billion funding round last year, which valued the robotaxi company at $45 billion.
With rival Cruise halting its commercial operations, Waymo has taken a dominant position in the U.S. robotaxi market. However, competition remains fierce.

Tesla plans to trial its long-promised robotaxi service in Austin this June, with potential expansion to California and beyond. Uber-backed Avride and Amazon-owned Zoox are also working toward launching autonomous ride services in Dallas and Las Vegas, respectively.
