Wallbox  has begun pre-orders for its Quasar 2 bi-directional charger, initially available to eligible Kia EV9 owners and lessees. The charger enables Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) functionality, allowing users to power areas of their homes, including during power outages, by drawing energy from their vehicle’s battery.

The Quasar 2 offers up to 12 kW of power for both charging and discharging, featuring a compact design and integration with solar energy systems. When paired with the Power Recovery Unit, it provides backup power capabilities, offering additional energy resilience for households.

Installation must be conducted by a certified professional, with Wallbox recommending COIL Inc. for optimal security and performance.

“We’re excited to open pre-orders for the innovative Quasar 2 charger, bringing advanced energy capabilities to eligible Kia EV9 drivers,” said Enric Asunción, CEO of Wallbox. “This cutting-edge technology allows eligible EV9 owners and lessees to take control of their energy consumption and costs, and provides the possibility of power backup during electrical outages.”

The introduction of the Quasar 2 aligns with the broader adoption of bi-directional charging technology, which allows EVs to function as energy storage units, supplying power to homes or the grid. Wallbox’s collaboration with Kia reflects a growing industry trend toward integrating automotive and energy management solutions, enhancing energy resilience and sustainability.

With limited initial availability, pre-order customers will receive priority access to the charger, reinforcing Wallbox’s position in the evolving EV charging sector.
