Volvo Cars announced a robust 8% increase in global sales for June, totaling 71,514 vehicles, driven by strong performances in Europe and Latin America. The company attributed much of this growth to the rising popularity of its fully electric EX30 SUV. Electrified models, encompassing fully electric and plug-in hybrids, saw a remarkable 41% surge compared to the previous year, comprising 48% of total sales for June.
In Europe, Volvo Cars sold 36,474 units, marking a substantial 34% increase year-over-year. Electrified models dominated this market, constituting 66% of total sales, with a notable 54% rise within this category. The fully electric segment alone experienced an impressive 155% growth, reflecting increasing consumer preference for sustainable mobility solutions.
Conversely, sales in China reached 14,049 cars, showing a modest decline of 9% from June last year. However, the demand for electrified models surged by 12%, totaling 1,448 units. Sales of fully electric cars rose by 52%, while plug-in hybrid sales remained stable with a slight 1% increase.
The US market experienced a notable decline with a 28% drop in sales, amounting to 9,304 cars sold in June. Despite this downturn, plug-in hybrid sales surged by 75%, indicating strong consumer interest in Volvo’s electrified offerings despite logistical challenges affecting dealerships.
Globally, Volvo Cars sold 388,073 vehicles from January to June, marking a 14% increase year-over-year. Björn Annwall, Volvo Cars’ chief commercial officer and deputy CEO, commented on the sales figures, stating, “As June comes to a close, the sales figures for the month are proof of the successful steps we have taken toward our long-term strategic direction and the continued demand for our cars.”
The top-selling model for Volvo in June was the XC60, with 19,222 units sold, followed closely by the XC40/EX40 at 16,195 units and the EX30 with 12,513 units. These models continue to strengthen Volvo’s market position globally.
