Volvo Cars CEO, Jim Rowan, has announced that the automaker’s upcoming EX30 electric vehicle (EV) will debut on June 15 and go into production by the end of 2023.

The EX30 is the smallest model in Volvo’s future EV range and is aimed at a younger demographic, thanks to its more affordable price point.

Rowan described the EX30 as “really important” and confirmed that it will be offered at a “really nice price point” while also being “very safe” and having a “decent range.” The EX30 is expected to be positioned below the slightly larger XC40 and will be sold online, with a subscription-based ownership option available.

The EX30 will be produced in China and will offer different battery pack options. It is likely that the vehicle will ride on the smaller version of Geely’s modular SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) platform, which also underpins the likely similarly-sized smart #1.

As part of its commitment to achieving global EV-only production by 2030, Volvo will discontinue all internal combustion engine-powered models.
