Volvo Cars has introduced a new drivetrain variant and additional updates for the latest model year of its entry-level electric vehicle, the EX30, expanding the range of configurations available for the compact SUV.
The new version features a 110 kW electric motor paired with a 51 kWh battery, with an estimated driving range of 339 kilometres under the WLTP test cycle. This compares with the existing entry-level EX30 Single Motor, which uses the same battery capacity but delivers 200 kW of power and a WLTP range of 337 kilometres. Volvo has not disclosed further technical details, pricing or the official sales name for the new variant.

Volvo said the lower-power configuration is intended as an entry option for daily commuting. “The perfect entry option for the person who needs a premium electric experience for the everyday commute,” the company said. Higher-capacity versions with a 69 kWh battery remain available, offering up to 476 kilometres of WLTP range in rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.
The new drivetrain is expected to be priced below the current €38,490 starting price of the Essential trim, which would make it the lowest-priced Volvo model currently offered across all powertrains. It will be sold alongside the existing 200 kW version with the same battery chemistry.

Additional changes include updates to the vehicle’s operating system. Volvo said a revised interface improves access to key controls, featuring redesigned menus and a customizable content bar for frequently used functions. Two new interior themes — “Harvest,” with a lighter aesthetic, and an all-black option — have been added, along with a Black Edition version combining the dark interior with black exterior accents. Exterior colour choices include Onyx Black, Vapour Grey and Crystal White.
Volvo also plans to activate Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability via an over-the-air update later this summer for both new and existing EX30 vehicles, although availability will initially be limited to selected markets. The function allows the vehicle battery to power external electrical devices using an adapter sold separately. The company did not specify output capacity.

The EX30 is built on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, rather than a proprietary Volvo platform, sharing technology with other models developed within the Geely group. While early production was based in China, vehicles for the European market are now assembled at Volvo’s plant in Ghent, Belgium.
Volvo executives said the updates are intended to broaden the model’s appeal. Erik Severinson, the company’s chief commercial officer, said the vehicle has been a strong performer in the premium entry-level electric segment since launch. “The latest EX30 will further increase our addressable market in this segment, be a driver of electrified growth for Volvo Cars and attract more customers towards full electrification,” he said.

Alexander Petrofski, product line manager for the 30/40 series, said the changes focus on usability and additional features. He cited improvements to the user interface, new interior options and the ability to power external devices. “By enhancing the user experience, introducing new premium interior options and adding smart technology like the possibility to transform the car into a powerbank for charging other electrical devices, we’re making everyday life easier and more enjoyable,” he said.
