Volkswagen’s Scout Motors is preparing for a significant comeback nearly 44 years after the last International Harvester Scout rolled off the assembly line in 1980. The company is building anticipation ahead of the official reveal on October 24, releasing a teaser image of its new “rugged” truck and SUV models.
While details remain closely guarded, both vehicles seem to share a similar front-end design, featuring a protruding bumper and a horizontal grille bar. The models also display a flat hood reminiscent of the Ford Bronco. The SUV appears to have a silhouette akin to a Range Rover, complete with an angular rear end and pronounced bumper, while the truck shows a flatter roof, a crew cab configuration, and a spacious bed with an upright rear window.
In a message to supporters, Scout Motors expressed gratitude for keeping the “Scout Spirit burning from one generation to the next,” recognizing the passionate community that has preserved the brand’s legacy. This sentiment was echoed in a nostalgic promotional video titled Encore, which highlights the role of enthusiasts, restorers, and makers in keeping the Scout legacy alive.
Production of the new Scout models is expected to begin in 2026, with prices anticipated to start around $50,000. If the company meets this target, the Scout could undercut competitors like the GMC Hummer EV, which operates in a similar market segment.
