Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has announced that the upcoming Transporter and Caravelle models will be the first Volkswagen vans to offer a choice of turbodiesel, plug-in hybrid, or electric drive options. Alongside this announcement, Volkswagen has released the first images of the new Transporter.

The latest generation of the Transporter promises more space, increased payload, enhanced towing capacity, and improved efficiency. The Transporter will be available in several variants: a panel van for pure goods transport, a panel van Plus with a second seat row for combined goods and passenger transport, a Kombi for passenger transport, and a double cab variant with a long wheelbase for diverse utility needs.

The Caravelle model includes a removable three-seat bench in the third row, accommodating up to nine passengers. Standard features include a keyless locking and starting system (Keyless Access), electrically folding exterior mirrors, two-tone leatherette seats, a multifunction leather steering wheel, a large center console with cup holders, a three-zone automatic air conditioner with an additional control panel for the rear passengers, and sun blinds in the second seat row.

A Volkswagen press release highlighted the variety of vans available: ā€œThere has never been such a wide array of vans on offer: with the new Transporter and Caravelle, the iconic ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo, the versatile Multivan, and the new California based on the Multivan, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has the ideal van for every customer.ā€

The all-electric models from Volkswagen will feature rear-wheel drive, with plans for an all-wheel drive version to be introduced at a later date.
