Volkswagen Group has opened pre-sales in China for its first electric model developed with local partner Xpeng, the Volkswagen ID. UNYX 08, priced from around €30,000.
The model, unveiled in November 2025, is the first production-ready vehicle resulting from the partnership formalised in 2023, under which Volkswagen also acquired a stake of approximately 5% in Xpeng.
Built on Xpeng’s Edward platform—also used in the Xpeng G9—the ID. UNYX 08 reached production readiness within 24 months, according to Volkswagen. Manufacturing is handled by Volkswagen Anhui at its plant in Hefei.
The SUV is offered exclusively in China, with pre-sale prices ranging from 239,900 yuan to 299,900 yuan (€30,000–€37,700). As is common in the Chinese market, reservations require only a small refundable deposit and are not binding.
The ID. UNYX 08 forms part of Volkswagen’s “In China, for China” strategy and is the first of around 20 locally developed New Energy Vehicles planned for the market. The vehicle integrates deeply with China’s digital ecosystem and features advanced Level 2 driver assistance capabilities.
Central to its technology is Xpeng’s VLA 2.0 intelligent driving system, which supports both highway and urban navigation functions. The system is powered by two proprietary Turing AI chips, delivering more than 1,500 TOPS of computing power.
The model is initially available in two configurations: a rear-wheel-drive version with 230 kW output and an all-wheel-drive variant adding a 140 kW front motor. Top speed is electronically limited to 200 km/h.
