In a bold move to expand its lineup of sporty electric vehicles, Volkswagen unveiled the highly anticipated ID.3 GTX and ID.7 GTX Tourer in a double global debut.

Following a teaser on social media earlier this week, Volkswagen confirmed the arrival of the ID.3 GTX, a new electric hot hatch that promises to deliver an exhilarating driving experience. But the excitement didn’t stop there; alongside the ID.3 GTX, Volkswagen also introduced the ID.7 GTX Tourer, touted as the most powerful VW wagon ever created.

Both the ID.3 GTX and ID.7 GTX Tourer feature sporty designs, distinctive front and rear light signatures, and a host of added features, marking a significant expansion of Volkswagen’s GTX branding. In fact, in Europe, every fifth ID.4 and ID.5 on the road is already a GTX model, underscoring the popularity and success of Volkswagen’s sporty electric vehicles.

The ID.3 GTX will be available in two trims, with the range-topping ID.3 GTX Performance boasting the most powerful VW electric drive motor to date, delivering up to 322 horsepower. Meanwhile, the base ID.3 GTX shares the same 282 horsepower as the RWD 2024 Volkswagen ID.4, with few differences between the two models.

The ID.3 GTX Performance also features a new 79 kWh battery pack, offering up to 373 miles of range and a 0 to 62 mph sprint in just 5.6 seconds. The sporty exterior of the ID.3 GTX is accentuated by GTX-specific front bumpers, a black air intake, new daytime running lights, and 20″ Skagen alloy wheels. Inside, premium sports seats, red stitching, and a high-quality cockpit surface create a luxurious and sporty ambiance, with the Performance model also featuring DCC adaptive chassis control.

On the other hand, the ID.7 GTX Tourer aims to redefine sporty mobility by combining the spaciousness of a large estate with the performance of a sports car. Powered by a dual-motor AWD system with up to 335 horsepower, the ID.7 GTX Tourer promises an exhilarating driving experience. With an 88 kWh battery, the largest for an MEB-based model, Volkswagen aims to achieve around 387 miles of range.

Pricing for the ID.3 GTX and ID.7 GTX Tourer has not yet been announced, but Volkswagen has confirmed that these new sporty EVs will be launching soon. Stay tuned for more details on these exciting new additions to Volkswagen’s electric vehicle lineup.
