Volkswagen will bring back the VW Scout sport utility vehicle (SUV) specifically for the United States market. This plan is an attempt to challenge local manufacturers, Ford and Rivian EV.
In order to realize the plan to rebuild the VW Scout, the German car manufacturer has invested 100 million euros.
Later in producing the VW Scout, his party will create an independent company in the United States that is separate from its parent in Germany. It is estimated that production will start in 2026.
It also stated that Volkswagen could seek external funding through investors or an IPO to expand their production capabilities.
“Electrification provides a historic opportunity to enter the US pick-up market and underscores VW’s ambition to become a relevant player in the US market,” said VW Group Chief Executive Herbert Diess.
Note that VW last sold a pickup in the United States market in the early 1980s.
Previously, Scout and Travelall were created by International Harvester. Harvester stopped building Scout and Travelall in 1980 after the company underwent a restructuring.
