The Volkswagen ID. Buzz has begun the year on a high note, having been named the overall winner and “Car of the Year” at the annual What Car? Awards. Additionally, it was also recognized as the “Large Electric Car of the Year.”

The ID. Buzz was praised for its comfort, refinement, and highly competitive PCP finance rates. The judges also noted its practicality and low running costs. According to What Car? Editor, Steve Huntingford, the ID. Buzz is “a car that you can buy with your head and your heart.”

The What Car? Car of the Year Awards are among the most prestigious in the industry and honor the best cars currently available on the market. The winners are chosen by a panel of expert editors after a year of rigorous testing.

Steve Huntingford, Editor of What Car?, continued: “There’s so much affection for the retro design of the ID. Buzz that Volkswagen could easily have penny-pinched on the engineering and still sold as many as it could make. But instead, it has clearly thrown everything at the car, with this resulting in something that combines the practicality of an MPV with the comfort and refinement of a premium SUV and the low running costs of an electric vehicle”

“In short, it moves the game on more than any other model launched in the past 12 months, so it had to be the What Car? Car of the Year.”

Collecting the award, Dr. Lars Krause, Board Member for Sales and Marketing of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: “The ID. Buzz is the reincarnation of an icon and we are thrilled that the experts at What Car? magazine share the enthusiasm of our fans and customers, and have given it the honour of their Car of the Year award.

“The UK is one of our most important markets, and customers here expect the best. We will continue to do all we can to build great cars for you, to develop icons of the future and to ensure the next successful chapter in our brand’s history.”

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz seamlessly blends iconic retro design with a futuristic aesthetic. Offered as both a five-seat passenger vehicle and a Cargo van, the ID. Buzz range hit showrooms in June 2022 and was delivered to customers in December of the same year. These models were created with a focus on sustainability and innovation, boasting a carbon neutral footprint and cutting-edge technology such as Park Assist Plus with Memory Function and LED headlights that automatically turn on when the driver approaches the vehicle.
