Volkswagen Enhances 2024 ID.4 Electric Compact SUV with Range and Horsepower Boost, Alongside Infotainment Upgrade

Volkswagen of America has revealed significant enhancements for its 2024 VW ID.4 electric compact SUV, particularly in the 82 kWh battery models. These upgrades promise to elevate the driving experience for consumers in the electric vehicle market.

The 2024 ID.4, manufactured in Chattanooga, Tennessee, will be offered in three trim levels: Standard/Pro, S, and S Plus. Buyers will also have the flexibility to choose between 62 kWh or 82 kWh batteries, along with either rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations.

One of the most notable improvements in the 82 kWh battery models is the boost in horsepower. These models will feature a new performance drive unit, resulting in increased power compared to the 2023 version. The RWD variant will generate 282 horsepower, while the AWD variant will push out approximately 330 horsepower. For comparison, the 2023 ID.4 AWD Pro S with an 82 kWh battery produced 295 horsepower, making this an exciting upgrade for potential buyers.

The horsepower increase in the 2024 ID.4 models is expected to enhance acceleration and deliver improved range. However, Volkswagen has not yet disclosed the exact range figures, stating that “EPA-estimated ranges for the 2024 ID.4 will be available closer to market introduction.”

In terms of infotainment, the 82 kWh ID.4 models are set to receive a larger display. While the 2023 models featured a 12-inch display, the 2024 models will boast a 12.9-inch screen equipped with backlit sliders. Additionally, Volkswagen promises “a new and more intuitive climate control interface and a revised infotainment menu.”

Further improvements in the 2024 82 kWh models include a new shifter position and a revised layout for the steering wheel. These models will also offer ventilated front-row seats, with the S Plus trim featuring a premium harman/kardon audio system equipped with nine speakers, a subwoofer, and a 16-channel amplifier, a significant upgrade from the 2023 model’s seven speakers and subwoofer.

While pricing details for the 2024 ID.4 are yet to be disclosed, they are expected to be unveiled closer to the vehicle’s on-sale date in early 2024.
