Dimensions, Performance and Charging
The ID. UNYX 09 adopts a fastback design and measures 5,081 mm in length, with a wheelbase of 3,030 mm. It is positioned in China’s large electric sedan segment.
The Ultra and fully equipped versions use a single electric motor driving the rear wheels, with peak output of 230 kW, equivalent to approximately 308 hp. Both deliver a claimed CLTC driving range of 755 km.
The Max variant uses a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration. Its front motor produces 140 kW and its rear motor 230 kW, giving a combined output of 370 kW. Its claimed CLTC range is 705 km.
All three trims feature a battery pack of approximately 92 kWh, using 5C fast-charging cells supplied by CATL. Volkswagen Anhui says the sedan can add 250 km of driving range in five minutes of charging under suitable conditions.
Xpeng AI Chip Powers Driver Assistance
The ID. UNYX 09 comes standard with a Turing AI chip supplied by Xpeng, delivering 750 TOPS of computing performance. Its driver-assistance system uses a Vision-Language-Action (VLA) large model.
The system supports navigation-assisted driving on highways and urban roads, as well as parking-space-to-parking-space assisted driving.
Available parking functions include parking after the driver exits the vehicle, remote parking and reverse-path assistance. These features extend the sedan’s driver-assistance capabilities beyond conventional highway systems.
Inside, every version includes an 85-inch augmented-reality head-up display and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen. The fully equipped and Max trims add dual-chamber air suspension and continuously controlled DCC variable damping, providing additional chassis and ride-control features.
Volkswagen Expands Its Xpeng Partnership
Volkswagen’s strategic partnership with Xpeng began in July 2023, when the German automaker announced a $700 million investment in the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer. The companies agreed to jointly develop two Volkswagen-branded models using Xpeng’s vehicle platform and driver-assistance software.
The ID. UNYX 09 extends the collaboration into the large electric sedan market, following the ID. UNYX 08 SUV.
The launch reflects Volkswagen’s continued reliance on local technology partnerships to accelerate product development in China. By combining Xpeng’s software and computing capabilities with CATL battery technology, Volkswagen Anhui is targeting buyers in a market where domestic manufacturers compete on price, driving range, charging speed and advanced driver assistance.
The sedan’s promotional entry price also places it in a highly competitive segment, as established automakers and Chinese EV brands continue to adjust pricing and equipment to attract customers.
