VinFast has announced the upcoming launch of the VF 3, an electric crossover set to debut in Vietnam with an attractive starting price of 240 million VND ($9,428). The vehicle, designed to cater to various driving needs, offers a unique battery subscription service with three different plans to choose from.
According to VinFast, the VF 3 will come in an array of colors, including four standard hues and five additional options. For those seeking a more personalized touch, a custom color can be selected for an extra 15 million VND ($589).
The VF 3 boasts practical features such as 7.5 inches (191 mm) of ground clearance and 16-inch aerodynamically optimized wheels. It also includes plastic body cladding and blacked-out pillars, enhancing its rugged yet modern appeal.
Measuring 125.6 inches (3,190 mm) long, 66.1 inches (1,679 mm) wide, and 63.8 inches (1,622 mm) tall, with a wheelbase of 81.6 inches (2,075 mm), the VF 3 is positioned as a compact and maneuverable urban vehicle. Its dimensions make it notably shorter than the Fiat 500e, adding to its appeal in crowded city environments.
Inside the cabin, the VF 3 features a 10-inch display serving as both a digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. The interior is characterized by a minimalist design, with a two-spoke steering wheel and intuitive controls, accented by vibrant touches of color. The rear seat can be folded down to provide 10 cubic feet (285 liters) of cargo space, enhancing the vehicle’s versatility.
Powering the VF 3 is a rear-mounted electric motor delivering 43 hp (32 kW / 44 PS) and 81 lb-ft (110 Nm) of torque. While not designed for high-performance, the crossover can accelerate from 0-31 mph (0-50 km/h) in a brisk 5.3 seconds, suitable for urban driving.
The vehicle is equipped with an 18.64 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, providing a range of up to 130 miles (210 km) on a single charge in the NEDC cycle. When quick charging is needed, the battery can be charged from 10% to 70% in just 36 minutes, offering convenience for on-the-go drivers.
VinFast has also announced that the VF 8 will feature Sony’s RIDEVU streaming video service, providing access to over 2,000 movies. However, due to the lack of a Mercedes-like SplitView technology, passengers will need to use their smartphones or tablets to watch movies while the vehicle is in motion, likely resorting to other streaming services such as Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.
RIDEVU will be complimentary for 12 months and included as part of the VF Connect Prime package, enhancing the VF 8’s entertainment offerings.
