VinFast recalled 2,781 of its sports utility model VF8 sold in the domestic market due to a potential issue with the bolt connecting the front brake caliper to the knuckle. The company has stated that the bolt may loosen during operation, potentially reducing the effectiveness of the front brake. VinFast has assured customers that it has not received any complaints or reports of breakdowns due to the issue.

VinFast, which began its operations in 2019, is currently preparing to expand its reach to the United States, where it aims to compete with established automakers. The company began shipping its first 999 VF8s in November 2022 and plans to deliver them by the end of February 2023. As of December 2022, VinFast had delivered over 4,000 EVs to customers domestically, with more than half of those being the sports utility VF8 model. The company has also secured 55,000 global orders, of which 12,000 are from the U.S. market.

The recall comes at a time when VinFast is ramping up its production and expanding its international presence. The company has stated that the issue is a specific component assembly item and that correcting the tightening torque for the 999 VF8s shipped to the U.S. is a relatively simple procedure that can be done quickly and will not affect the delivery timeline.

VinFast’s commitment to customer safety is evident in its proactive approach to the issue. The company’s swift action to recall the affected vehicles and make the necessary adjustments demonstrates its dedication to maintaining the highest safety standards. As VinFast continues to expand and establish itself as a global EV manufacturer, this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety and quality control in the automotive industry.
