The Vespa 50 Special-e Custom is showing at Milan Design Week 2022, Italy. Interestingly, this classic vespa has been customized with an electric engine.
This Vespa was built by Lapo Elkann at the Italian Garage workshop. In the process, the powertrain of this scooter is changed to electric so that its name is added to the element ‘e’ which indicates that this Vespa is already electric.
Lapo himself is a member of the Agnelli family, namely the grandson of former Fiat chairman, Gianni Agnelli. Lapo’s brother, John Elkann, is the boss of Ferrari, Stellantis and CEO of Exor, an auto company.
This Vespa 50 Special-e Custom represents Garage Italia’s first entry into the world of wheels, where the workshop is actually a car-focused workshop.
The reason Garage Italia built this vespa was as the latest entry in the Italian ICON-E Garage series that turned classic designs into electric. Previously, the ICON-E projects were the Fiat 500 Jolly and the Fiat Panda Integral-e.
“I am very happy to present Garage Italia Customs Special-e because for me, the Vespa is not just an icon of style and design. I am very attached to Piaggio because of my cousin, Giovanni Alberto Agnelli, who became president of the company in the 1990s. That’s why I dedicate this latest creation of Garage Italia,” said Lapo on Moto.it.
Meanwhile, Sergio Esposito as CEO of Garage Italia, said that this scooter can be ordered. “With the Vespa 50 Special-e, we are targeting the hearts of Italian turtleneck lovers. This scooter can be ordered directly through the official channels of Garage Italia Customs,” he said.
