Valeo and Nissan have signed an agreement to commercialize Valeo’s vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and smart charging technologies across Europe, beginning with a launch in the United Kingdom.

The partnership will provide eligible Nissan electric vehicle owners with access to both bidirectional and intelligent unidirectional charging solutions through Nissan’s European network, supporting the automaker’s broader energy services strategy.

Two Charging Solutions Included

The agreement covers two AC charging products from Valeo’s Ineez portfolio.

The first is a Smart Unidirectional (V1G) charging station that enables managed charging based on electricity prices and grid conditions. The system complies with the UK’s EV Smart Charge Points (EVSCP) regulations and is designed to help drivers optimize charging costs while supporting grid stability.

The second is an Advanced Bidirectional (V2G) charging station, which allows compatible Nissan electric vehicles to both draw electricity from and supply electricity back to the grid.

Through this technology, vehicle batteries can act as distributed energy storage assets, providing electricity during periods of high demand while potentially generating value for vehicle owners.

Supporting Energy Management

According to the companies, the charging solutions are intended to help drivers manage electricity consumption more efficiently by charging vehicles when electricity prices are lower and using stored battery energy during peak-demand periods.

The technology can also support households equipped with solar generation systems by increasing self-consumption of renewable energy.

In addition, V2G capability can contribute to grid balancing by making stored vehicle energy available when required by the electricity network.

UK Launch First, Wider European Expansion Planned

Commercial deployment will begin in the United Kingdom before expanding to additional European markets.

The agreement supports Nissan’s plans to integrate vehicle-to-grid capabilities into its broader energy services offering across the region.

Valeo will supply the charging infrastructure used as part of those services.

“This major contract with Nissan represents a decisive step in Valeo’s ambition to shape the future of electric mobility,” said Isabelle D’Ambrosio, Vice President Smart Mobility at Valeo.

“By combining Valeo’s technological leadership in bidirectional charging with Nissan’s vision for an integrated energy ecosystem, we are redefining the electric vehicle as a critical asset for the grid. Together, we are accelerating the energy transition across Europe, with innovative solutions that benefit both drivers and grid stability.”

Expanding the Role of Electric Vehicles

Nissan said the partnership reflects its strategy of positioning electric vehicles as energy assets capable of supporting both mobility and energy management.

“This agreement with Valeo marks a concrete step in how Nissan is redefining its vehicles as energy assets, not just mobility products,” said Soufiane El Khomri, Nissan Energy Services Director.

“By integrating Valeo’s bidirectional charging technology into our V2X service offer, we are giving our customers in Europe the tools to actively manage their energy, reduce costs, and contribute to grid resilience — while driving the transition to a smarter, more sustainable energy model.”

The two companies are showcasing the charging solutions at Power2Drive Europe in Munich from June 23 to June 25, 2026.
