The highly-anticipated Tesla Cybertruck will be equipped with the company’s latest computer technology, known as Hardware 4. This will make the Cybertruck the first model in Tesla’s lineup to feature the upgraded capabilities of the advanced electronic brain.
Although details of the Hardware 4 computer have yet to be revealed, it is expected to significantly enhance the performance and functionality of the Cybertruck. This news has generated even more excitement for the release of the futuristic electric vehicle.
“Cybertruck will have Hardware 4. And to be clear, for 2023, Cybertruck will not be a significant contributor to the bottom line, but it will be into next year. It’s an incredible product. I can’t wait to drive it personally, and it will be the car that I drive every day. It’s just one of those products that only comes along once in a while, and it’s really special,” Musk added.
Tesla vehicles currently use the company’s Hardware 3.0 computer, which was introduced in 2019 and made available as a retrofit option for owners with cars equipped with the previous 2.5 version of the hardware.
This upgrade brought several new features to the table, such as visualizations for traffic lights, cones, and garbage cans, as well as arrows on the roadway in the navigation system. Additionally, the Full Self-Driving (FSD) Computer 1 boasts significantly more computing power than the previous version supplied by NVIDIA.
Although information on the next generation of Tesla’s hardware and software is currently scarce, it is believed that it will be known as FSD Computer 2 and will offer three times the computing power of the current Hardware 3.0. More official details are expected to be shared at Tesla’s Investor Day, scheduled for March 1, which will be live-streamed from the company’s Giga factory in Texas.
The event will also provide an opportunity for investors to see Tesla’s most advanced production line and hear about the company’s long-term expansion plans, Generation 3 platform, capital allocation, and more from the leadership team.
