The UK installed 14,097 new electric vehicle charging stations in 2025, with the fastest growth concentrated in high-power chargers, according to figures published by charging data platform Zapmap.
By the end of the year, Great Britain had 87,796 charging stations across 45,033 locations, Zapmap said, underscoring steady progress in expanding the country’s EV infrastructure. These stations comprised 116,052 EVSE units, supporting a total of 122,071 connectors, although multiple connectors on a single unit cannot be used at the same time.

Zapmap said growth was strongest in ultra-fast chargers rated at 150 kilowatts or more. The number of these stations rose 41% year-on-year, adding 2,872 units to reach 9,893. Rapid chargers with capacities between 50 kW and 149 kW increased by 8% to 8,042 stations. Lower-powered chargers, including slow and fast AC units typically rated at 11 kW or 22 kW, remained the largest category, rising 18% to 69,861 stations.
The company also highlighted a shift in how charging availability is measured. “As technology evolves, so does the most meaningful metric, and we are working with the industry to reach a broad consensus to improve clarity in understanding these figures,” a Zapmap representative said, adding that EVSE counts are increasingly viewed as a better indicator of charging accessibility.

Charging hubs — defined by Zapmap as locations with at least six rapid or ultra-rapid chargers accessible to all brands — also expanded sharply. The UK added 211 such sites in 2025, lifting the total to 748 hubs, a 39% increase.
Regional growth varied, with the North West recording year-on-year growth of more than 35% in high-power chargers. The East of England, Wales and Northern Ireland each saw growth of around 29% in the same segment, Zapmap said, noting that Northern Ireland’s percentage increase came from a relatively small base.
