Uber and Chinese autonomous vehicle technology company WeRide announced plans to expand their commercial robotaxi service, aiming to introduce the service to 15 additional cities within the next five years. This expansion follows the launch of a commercial robotaxi service in Abu Dhabi just five months ago.
The expansion will include several cities across Europe. Under the partnership, WeRide’s robotaxi services are made accessible through the Uber app, following a similar model to Uber’s existing collaboration with Waymo.

In these partnerships, Uber manages the network routing and fleet operations, while the autonomous vehicle company is responsible for the technology behind the vehicles.
WeRide, which went public on Nasdaq in October 2024, already operates robotaxi services in Abu Dhabi in partnership with local firm Tawasul Transport, which handles fleet management. The companies have announced plans to expand to Dubai next.

The new 15-city expansion will focus on regions outside China and the U.S., broadening Uber’s reach as it strengthens its position in the autonomous vehicle space. Uber has forged more than 15 partnerships with various autonomous vehicle technology firms over the past two years, spanning ride-hailing, delivery, and trucking sectors. In recent months, the company also formed new deals with Michigan-based May Mobility, Volkswagen, and China’s Momenta.
Uber’s most prominent autonomous partnership in the U.S. is with Waymo, where the companies have already launched a Waymo on Uber service in Austin and plan to expand it to Atlanta.
