TuSimple long-standing reputation for autonomous driving technology is reported to be exploring a partnership with commercial vehicle maker Foton to build a heavy truck with long-range and high-efficiency.

Bloomberg reports in a report that TuSimple’s autonomous driving software will be installed on trucks manufactured by Foton. Currently, TuSimple and Foton are discussing plans for this collaboration.

Foton is a subsidiary of the BAIC group. Foton has been producing trucks and buses. Foton is known to have a joint venture with Daimler AG to make heavy tractors.

On January 5, TuSimple and NVIDIA announced a strategic partnership to design and develop autonomous domain controllers (ADC) specifically designed for L4 autonomous trucking applications.

Previously TuSimple successfully operates autonomous trucks running on public roads. Along the way, the TuSimple Autonomous Driving System (ADS) successfully navigates surface roads, traffic signals and on-highway lanes, according to the company.
