Hubject has announced a partnership with DC charging technology firm Tritium to roll out Plug & Charge functionality across Tritium’s global charging infrastructure. The integration aims to simplify electric vehicle charging by enabling automatic authentication between EVs and chargers in accordance with ISO 15118 standards.
The collaboration will combine Hubject’s Intercharge platform and Plug & Charge ecosystem with Tritium’s DC charging stations. Hubject, headquartered in Berlin, said the initiative seeks to implement a secure and scalable framework that eliminates the need for apps or RFID cards, allowing EV drivers to start charging automatically once they plug in.
The integration will be deployed in phases, initially focusing on key markets in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, with plans for global expansion. While the feature will first appear on new installations, Tritium also plans to extend Plug & Charge capabilities to select existing charger models, according to the companies.
Hubject stated the collaboration will also support charge point operators (CPOs) by providing tools to enable and scale Plug & Charge functionality with limited integration efforts.
Christian Hahn, CEO of Hubject, said the combination of Tritium’s fast-charging hardware and Hubject’s digital infrastructure is expected to enhance both user satisfaction and operational efficiency as EV adoption increases.
Tritium, originally founded in Australia, was acquired last year by Indian charging infrastructure firm Exicom. Exicom had established its own partnership with Hubject shortly before acquiring Tritium. Since 2020, Tritium has used its own Plug & Charge technology, offering direct communication between vehicles and chargers without the need for external authentication methods.
