Toyota Motor said it is recalling about 55,400 hybrid vehicles in the United States after identifying a manufacturing defect in the inverter assembly that could lead to a loss of drive power or, in rare cases, a fire.
The recall covers certain 2025–2026 Camry Hybrid models and 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles produced between late August and late November 2025. According to Toyota, the issue stems from an improperly torqued bolt inside the inverter assembly supplied by Denso Manufacturing Tennessee.
The automaker said the bolt may not have been tightened to specification during production, potentially resulting in incomplete electrical contact. In some cases, the bolt could become loose and contact internal circuitry, increasing the risk of a short circuit and thermal damage.
Toyota said it has identified approximately 51,644 affected Camry Hybrid vehicles and 3,761 Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles. Owners have been advised not to drive the vehicles and to park them outdoors until a repair remedy is available.
The issue was identified after Toyota investigated a field report in early November involving a vehicle that failed to start. Further inspection found a loose bolt inside the inverter assembly. A subsequent review at the supplier’s facility in Tennessee revealed that changes in equipment settings had led to insufficient torque being applied during a defined production period.
Toyota said the defect could lead to warning lights, reduced vehicle performance, or a complete loss of drive power. In more severe cases, a short circuit could generate enough heat to damage internal components.
The company said it is still developing a repair and will notify owners once a fix is available. Interim notification letters are expected to be mailed between late January and mid-February 2026. Toyota’s internal recall reference numbers are 25TB15 and 25TA15, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has assigned campaign number 25V869.
As of Dec. 10, Toyota said it had received 34 field reports and 15 warranty claims potentially related to the issue. The automaker added that current production and sales operations are continuing as normal.
