Lucid Motors has delayed the launch of its new mid-size electric vehicle platform until the second half of 2027 as the company implements a broad restructuring programme aimed at reducing costs and improving operational performance.

The announcement accompanied the company’s second-quarter 2026 financial results, during which Lucid unveiled its “Back to Basics” transformation strategy targeting approximately $1.4 billion in savings this year.

Cost Reduction Programme

The restructuring initiative focuses on reducing operating expenses, capital expenditure and working capital while improving product quality and customer experience.

Lucid said the programme is built around three priorities: strengthening liquidity and cost discipline, improving customer satisfaction and product quality, and enhancing organisational culture and execution.

Since taking over as chief executive, Silvio Napoli has introduced a series of measures to streamline the business, including reducing the workforce by approximately 18% in late June.

Mid-Size Platform Delayed

Lucid had previously planned to launch its new mid-size platform by the end of 2026, with vehicles expected to start below $50,000.

The company has now postponed the launch until the second half of 2027.

The platform will underpin the Lucid Cosmos, Lucid Earth and a third model that has yet to be named.

According to Napoli, the revised schedule will allow additional time to complete development, manufacturing validation and quality assurance before the vehicles enter production.

He said the company intends to bring the models to market only after meeting its internal quality and production standards.

Financial Performance

Lucid reported second-quarter revenue of $405 million, representing a 56% increase from the same period a year earlier.

The company recorded a net loss of $1.26 billion during the quarter, bringing cumulative losses since its founding to approximately $17.67 billion.

Vehicle deliveries totalled 3,953 units across the Lucid Air sedan and Lucid Gravity SUV during the quarter.

Product Development Continues

Despite the revised launch timeline, Lucid said development of the new platform continues to progress.

The company reported that its Atlas drive units and prototype vehicles are undergoing testing, including cold-weather validation in New Zealand, while battery packs have reached production maturity.

Upcoming development work includes additional prototype builds, manufacturing validation, regulatory approvals and homologation ahead of commercial production.
