Tesla said its new six-seat Model Y L has arrived in showrooms across China, a day after launching the variant with a starting price of 339,000 yuan ($47,210). Deliveries are expected to begin in September.
“Good news! The Model Y L is now available at all Tesla stores. We invite everyone to visit Tesla stores for more information and test drives!” the company wrote in a post on Chinese social media platform Weibo.
The Model Y L, fitted with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system, can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.5 seconds. Equipped with an 82.0-kWh battery pack supplied by South Korea’s LG Energy Solution, it offers a driving range of 751 kilometers under China’s CLTC testing standard – the longest among the Model Y lineup.
Tesla currently sells two five-seat Model Y variants in China, starting at 263,500 yuan for the entry-level rear-wheel drive version and 313,500 yuan for the long-range all-wheel drive model. The new six-seat version is positioned as a variant rather than a standalone model, the company said.
The launch comes as the Model Y, Tesla’s best-selling model globally, faces headwinds in the competitive Chinese electric vehicle market, where domestic rivals are ramping up new offerings and discounts. Early reviews of the Model Y L from local media have been largely positive, lifted after a review embargo was lifted following its launch.
