Tesla’s Model S Plaid, known for its record-breaking acceleration, has been converted into a police cruiser for the first time, thanks to a specialized buildout by Tesla mod kit manufacturer Unplugged Performance. The modified Model S Plaid was revealed on the opening day of the SEMA automotive trade show in Las Vegas, marking the latest addition to Unplugged Performance’s lineup of Tesla vehicles adapted for law enforcement.
The Model S Plaid, recognized as one of the world’s fastest production cars, accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.99 seconds and reaches a top speed of 200 mph, with a range of 359 miles. These features make it uniquely suited for high-performance policing, adding another layer to Tesla’s use as a fleet vehicle. “This Model S Plaid is tailored to meet the demands of modern police departments,” said a representative from Unplugged Performance’s UP.FIT division.

Unplugged Performance has previously developed police cruiser modifications for Tesla’s Model Y and Model 3, as well as a custom-built version of the Cybertruck, already deployed across multiple U.S. police departments. This marks the first deployment of a police-specific kit for the Model S Plaid, following the company’s release of other Tesla models designed for both government and law enforcement use.
In addition to fleet modifications, Unplugged Performance has garnered attention for its racing arm. The company’s racing Model S Plaid, known as “Dark Helmet” and driven by racer Randy Pobst, has competed at the Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb, cementing Unplugged Performance’s reputation for high-performance vehicle modifications.
