Tesla has started rolling out its latest software update, version 2023.12, to its employees for testing before a public release. This update includes a number of significant user interface (UI) improvements that both new and existing Tesla owners will enjoy.

According to Teslascope, a third-party companion app and software update tracker, the update will offer both usability improvements and the long-requested ability to customize some of the controls.

The new update includes several improvements that will make accessing information easier for all users. One of the most notable changes is the addition of two text size options, Standard and Large, making it easier for those with visual impairments to read the text on the screen. Additionally, a search bar has been added to the in-car menu, eliminating the need for users to tap each menu item to find what they are looking for.

The update also improves Superchargers and Points of Interest on the map, adding photos and reviews to enhance the user experience.

One of the most exciting additions to the 2023.12 software update is the ability to customize some of the controls, a feature that Tesla owners have been requesting for a long time. The customization is focused around the left steering wheel scroll wheel, which can now be used to adjust screen brightness, Acceleration Mode, and perform actions like toggling the Camera App, opening the glovebox, and saving dashcam footage. All of these customizations and more will be available in a menu setting (Controls > Display > Scroll Wheel Function).

The left scroll wheel can also be used to answer or decline incoming phone calls, mute-unmute during a call, or hang up. These new features will significantly enhance the overall driving experience and provide greater convenience to Tesla owners.

The update has just been deployed to Tesla employees for testing, and it is expected to be available to the general public in the coming weeks. However, depending on the results of testing, some features may be removed before the update is released to customers.

In conclusion, the 2023.12 software update from Tesla offers several exciting improvements that will enhance the user experience for all Tesla owners. With the addition of customizable controls and usability improvements, Tesla continues to push the boundaries of what is possible with electric vehicles.
