Subscriptions for Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta could be headed to Canada soon, according to a recent update from Tesla Vice President of Public Policy and Business Development Rohan Patel.

Patel stated on Saturday that he expects the FSD beta rollout in Canada to take place “in the coming weeks, barring any setbacks.” He confirmed that CEO Elon Musk has approved the update for Canada and that the team is currently working on technical and regulatory procedures in the country’s provinces.

The update from Patel came in response to a question from the Teslascope account, which frequently receives inquiries about the availability of the FSD beta in Canada. The user asked if there were any legal barriers preventing Tesla from offering the FSD beta in the country.

While Patel did not disclose the subscription cost for the FSD beta in Canada, it currently costs $199 per month in the U.S., or $99 for those with Enhanced Autopilot. In Canada, the at-purchase option for the FSD beta costs CAD $16,000, but the subscription model would allow owners to cancel the add-on at any time.

Tesla initially launched the FSD beta in Canada in 2022, but the subscription option has not yet been made available. This update follows the discovery of information about the FSD beta in Tesla owner’s manuals outside of North America last year, indicating that Tesla could be preparing to launch the system globally. The company has also made progress in gaining regulatory approval for the system in Europe.

In recent months, Tesla has been rolling out its FSD beta v12 to select customers ahead of a wider launch. Musk previously stated that FSD v12 would not be in beta, and it has been rolling out to Tesla employees since November, hinting at an imminent public release.
