Tesla’s Facelifted Model 3 Gets a Safety Boost with Blind-Spot Indicators

In a notable update to its popular Model 3, Tesla has introduced blind-spot indicators, a feature commonly found in more affordable vehicles. The blind-spot indicators, which are typically integrated into the side mirrors of most cars, have taken an unconventional position in the facelifted Model 3, residing within the upper speaker grille on the driver’s door.

While the placement of these indicators may appear unorthodox, it offers a convenient location for drivers, promising ease of use and enhanced safety on the road.

This marks the first time Tesla has incorporated such blind-spot indicators, but the electric vehicle manufacturer has not been oblivious to the importance of addressing blind spots. For years, Tesla vehicles have utilized side cameras to provide drivers with a visual representation of their surroundings when using the turn signal—a feature akin to certain Hyundai and Kia models. Additionally, Tesla vehicles are equipped with a warning chime that activates if a driver attempts to change lanes when another vehicle is in close proximity.

Over the past week, several journalists and YouTubers have had the opportunity to test drive the upgraded Model 3. One video, posted by the YouTuber known as “Automobile Propre,” briefly showcases the blind-spot indicator in action. At the 9:15 mark of the video, a small orange light within the speaker grille illuminates as a vehicle passes in the opposite direction.

Beyond the introduction of blind-spot indicators, the 2024 Tesla Model 3 boasts several other updates to enhance its appeal and modernity. The cabin now includes a standard ambient lighting system, and Tesla has incorporated ventilated seats—a crucial feature for those residing in warmer climates. However, Tesla’s decision to remove the turn signal stalks and the gear selector stalk, necessitating the use of the central touchscreen for gear selection, has garnered mixed reactions from Tesla enthusiasts.
