Elon Musk announced a new anticipated launch date for Tesla’s supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) software for the Cybertruck during a virtual appearance at the X Takeover event in San Luis Obispo, California.
Participating in a Q&A session with Tesla Owners Silicon Valley leaders John Stringer and Kelvin Gee, Musk responded to inquiries about the availability of FSD for the Cybertruck. “I think that should be coming out in August,” Musk stated.
Stringer humorously noted that August was “technically two weeks” away, prompting Musk to provide additional clarification. “Yeah. At some point in the next two to four-ish weeks, it should work on the Cybertruck,” Musk added. “I’m not sure the exact timing, because we just have to test it and make sure it works well. But 12.5 is where a lot of things come together, where you’ve got the… we upgrade the highway stack to the latest version, so it’s… you don’t have the old highway stack and the new city stack.”
In addition to discussing the broader rollout of FSD Supervised v12.5, Musk and Stringer mentioned knowing individuals who had driven across the country in Cybertrucks without FSD, reverting to what Stringer referred to as “peasant status.”
Musk had previously indicated that FSD would release for the Cybertruck with v12.5, initially projecting a late June rollout. However, he later suggested that “Cybertruck FSD was a few months away.”
Tesla commenced the rollout of FSD v12.5.1 on Friday to a select number of non-employee vehicles. Musk has indicated that the initial versions of 12.5 will only be available for Model Y vehicles equipped with HW4, with plans to extend the update to other vehicles thereafter.
