Tesla, the pioneering electric vehicle manufacturer, has introduced a specialized two-seater configuration of its popular Model Y SUV, designed with a focus on businesses. The new variant, unveiled in France today, offers a capacious rear storage area ideal for transporting goods or accommodating custom solutions tailored to commercial needs.
Clément Maguet, Senior Account Manager at Tesla, shared the announcement of this innovative model on LinkedIn, highlighting its impressive features. “Tesla has developed a 2-seater Model Y with a storage capacity of 2,158 liters and offering a range of up to 565 km (WLTP cycle),” said Maguet. “This model is eligible for commercial vehicle taxation.”
One of the key highlights of this new iteration is its enhanced storage capacity and extended range. With a range of 565 km (351 miles), this new configuration surpasses the highest-rated consumer version of the Model Y by approximately 30 kilometers.
Tesla has not yet disclosed the pricing for the new two-seater Model Y, advising interested buyers to contact Tesla’s fleet unit for details. Currently, this configuration is exclusively available in France, and there is no official information regarding the potential expansion of this program to other markets.
In France, vehicles with two or three seats utilized for commercial purposes are exempt from the TVA tax, making the new Model Y particularly attractive for businesses seeking cost-effective and environmentally friendly transportation solutions. With an estimated fleet of around 6.3 million commercial vehicles in France, predominantly powered by diesel, Tesla’s introduction of this tailored Model Y variant signifies a strategic move to capture a significant portion of this market.
