Tesla has announced a significant price reduction for its Model Y electric vehicles in Germany, with discounts of up to 6,000 euros available until June 30, 2024. The promotion, dubbed the “environmental bonus” by Tesla, aims to stimulate sales and reduce overproduction at the company’s Grünheide factory.
The move comes in response to a recent decline in Tesla’s sales in Germany, with the company selling approximately 40% fewer Model Y vehicles in the first five months of this year compared to the same period last year. This has resulted in high inventory levels at the Grünheide factory, prompting Tesla to introduce the environmental bonus as a sales incentive.
Under the promotion, the base model of the Tesla Model Y with rear-wheel drive is now priced at 38,990 euros in Germany. Other models have also seen price reductions, with the Long Range rear-wheel drive starting at just under 43,000 euros and the Long Range all-wheel drive available from just under 49,000 euros. Even the high-performance Model Y Performance with a large battery pack is now 6,000 euros cheaper, priced at just under 54,000 euros.
However, there are certain conditions attached to the environmental bonus. Vehicles must be delivered by June 30 to qualify for the discount, and the offer does not apply to used vehicles. Additionally, the Tesla environmental bonus cannot be combined with other offers, such as the company’s favorable financing options.
Tesla hopes that the environmental bonus will not only boost sales of its Model Y vehicles but also stimulate electric mobility in general. The company aims to register thousands of stock cars, currently parked at the former military airfield near Berlin, within a month. This move could significantly impact the German electric vehicle market, which has recently stabilized at around 30,000 new battery electric vehicle registrations per month.
