Tesla has announced the discontinuation of its long-standing referral program, which allowed owners to earn rewards by referring new buyers to purchase a Tesla vehicle. The program, in various forms, has been a staple of Tesla’s customer engagement strategy for several years.
Originally launched in 2015, the referral program has undergone several iterations, offering rewards ranging from direct cash incentives to discounts on future purchases, free supercharging, and access to Full Self-Driving (FSD) features. The program also included promises of free or discounted next-gen Roadsters, with Tesla committing to deliver around 80 of these vehicles as rewards.

In recent years, Tesla has scaled back the rewards offered through the program, eventually limiting it to certain products like the solar roof. However, in 2022, Tesla revived the referral program in a more limited form, offering benefits such as temporary free supercharging, temporary FSD access, temporary premium connectivity, or $500 off a new vehicle for buyers, and credits for referrers redeemable in Tesla’s shop for merchandise or accessories.
Despite its periodic revivals, Tesla has now decided to permanently end the referral program, with the shutdown scheduled for April 30th. While specific details of the program’s retirement have not yet been provided, orders placed before April 30th that are delivered afterward may still qualify for credits, and existing referral credits may be redeemable after the shutdown date.
As Tesla has not updated the details on its referral page, the exact timeline and conditions for the program’s end remain unclear. However, it is expected that Tesla will honor referral credits earned before the shutdown until their expiry date, though some rewards may become unavailable before then.
