Tesla is set to commence deliveries of its Model Y in Malaysia next week, marking a significant milestone more than eight months after the popular electric car went on sale in the Southeast Asian country.
The company launched in Malaysia in mid-July 2023, opening its Design Studio to customers for the first time with the Model Y. According to the online configurator, the first deliveries were slated to start in early 2024. As per a report from local publication Soyacincau, the first Model Ys will indeed be handed over to customers next week, right on schedule.
Interestingly, the Model Y deliveries will begin nearly four months after the updated Model 3 started deliveries in Malaysia, despite the Model Y going on sale in the country earlier. Malaysia was among the first countries to receive the upgraded Model 3 from Giga Shanghai in November, even though orders for the electric sedan only opened in October.
All three variants of the Model Y will be available for order in Malaysia, with prices starting at RM199,000 (C$56,600) for the Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) version, RM246,000 (C$69,900) for the Long Range, and RM288,000 (C$81,900) for the Performance model.
