Tesla will begin deliveries of the updated Model Y in China later this month, earlier than the previously expected March timeline, after receiving full regulatory approval.
Tesla’s China website was updated on Tuesday, stating that deliveries of the facelifted Model Y will commence in late February. The company also confirmed that its “Launch Series” variants will be available for purchase only until February 28, as initially announced.

The refreshed Model Y, introduced in China on January 10, was included in a public regulatory catalog released the same day by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). On Monday, the MIIT further approved the model for purchase tax reductions, marking the final step in its regulatory clearance.
Tesla’s filings indicate that three Model Y variants—TSL6480BEVAR5, TSL6480BEVAR6, and TSL6480BEVBA7—will be available. The first two models feature a 62.5 kWh battery pack, offering a CLTC range of 559 km or 593 km, while the third model has a 78.4 kWh battery, providing a range of 662 km or 719 km. The lower-range versions are powered by lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from CATL, whereas the long-range dual-motor variant uses LFP batteries supplied by LG Energy Solution.

The Model Y Launch Series is available in China in two versions: a rear-wheel drive model starting at RMB 263,500 ($36,280) and a long-range all-wheel drive version at RMB 303,500. This pricing places the facelifted Model Y slightly above the outgoing models, which started at RMB 249,900 for the base variant and RMB 290,900 for the long-range version.
The updated Model Y enters an increasingly competitive Chinese EV market, facing potential rivals such as Xiaomi’s upcoming YU7 SUV. Xiaomi has filed regulatory listings for both dual-motor and single-motor versions of the YU7, which were also included in the MIIT’s latest catalog. The Xiaomi YU7 boasts a CLTC range of up to 820 km, positioning it as a formidable competitor in the segment.
