Tesla has begun deploying the Grok artificial intelligence assistant, developed by xAI, to its vehicles across several European countries, marking the feature’s first availability outside the United States. The rollout follows regulatory delays and comes as part of software update 2026.2.6.
The feature, branded “Grok with Navigation Commands (Beta),” allows drivers to interact with a conversational AI capable of answering questions and directly controlling the vehicle’s navigation system. Tesla said the assistant can interpret natural language requests rather than relying solely on predefined voice commands.

Initial availability covers the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France, Portugal, and Spain, with additional markets expected to follow. According to Tesla’s release notes, the assistant can manage complex navigation tasks. “Grok can add and edit navigation destinations. You can ask Grok to navigate to the best Thai restaurant near you, find a Supercharger within walking distance of a coffee shop, or even plan a romantic sightseeing tour.”
The system uses real-time data and advanced language processing to provide contextual responses and route adjustments. By enabling conversational control of navigation, Tesla aims to reduce manual input while enhancing the in-car user experience.

Unlike traditional voice assistants in vehicles, Grok is designed to handle multi-step queries and dynamic requests, functioning as a digital co-driver capable of answering general questions while managing travel planning. The company said the phased rollout will continue as regulatory approvals and localization efforts progress across Europe.
