Tesla is recalling 6,197 Cybertrucks in the United States after determining that an offroad light bar installed on certain 2024 models could loosen and detach, creating a potential road hazard for other vehicles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Thursday.

According to NHTSA documents, the recall covers vehicles equipped with a service-installed offroad light bar accessory that may have been attached using an incorrect surface primer. The improper primer could prevent the light bar from adhering properly to the windshield, increasing the risk of it detaching while the vehicle is in motion. Regulators warned that a falling light bar could create a road hazard and heighten the risk of a crash.

Tesla Service will inspect affected vehicles and either install an additional mechanical attachment or replace the light bar. The remedy involves using adhesive tape to secure the light bar to the windshield, along with an added mechanical attachment if necessary. All repairs will be performed free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning December 26, 2025. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752, referencing recall number SB-25-90-001.

The latest action follows a previous recall of 63,619 Cybertrucks to address a software issue that made the front parking lights excessively bright, potentially impairing the vision of oncoming drivers. Tesla has since released an over-the-air update to correct the problem at no cost for vehicles built between November 13, 2023, and October 11, 2025.
