Tesla is recalling 3,878 Cybertrucks to address a potential safety issue with the accelerator pedal pad, which could come loose and become lodged in the interior trim, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on Friday.

According to the auto safety regulator, a trapped accelerator pedal could lead to unintentional acceleration, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall comes as Tesla continues to ramp up deliveries of its Cybertruck electric pickup truck, following a two-year delay due to production challenges and battery-supply constraints.

Tesla has stated that it will replace or repair the accelerator pedal assembly at no cost to the owners. Notifications will be sent out to affected owners via mail in June, the NHTSA confirmed.

In the first quarter of 2024, Tesla faced three recalls impacting approximately 2.4 million vehicles, according to a report by recall management firm BizzyCar. However, Tesla often resolves such issues through over-the-air software updates.

This recent recall adds to Tesla’s history of safety-related recalls. In February, the company recalled about 2.2 million vehicles in the United States due to an incorrect font size on warning lights. U.S. safety regulators have also escalated their investigation into Tesla’s vehicles over concerns related to power steering loss, upgrading it to the status of an engineering analysis.
